𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬’ 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 (𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 & 𝐏𝐬𝐲𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠) 𝐚𝐭 𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐡 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐊𝐨𝐥𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐚 (𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟏)
The National Trainers’ Training Workshop (Career & Psychological Counselling), jointly organized by the Centre for Training & Academic Guidance (CTAG) and the Students’ Counselling Committee, Aliah University, commenced on 21 August 2026 at Aliah University, Park Circus Campus, Kolkata. The first day began with participant registration and networking, followed by the inaugural session. The workshop brought together 140 participants from different parts of West Bengal as well as adjoining states, including trainers, counsellors and education professionals, with the objective of strengthening their knowledge and practical skills in career and psychological counselling.
The technical sessions commenced with Dr. Jakir Hussain Molla, Training & Placement Officer, Aliah University, who conducted a session on Career Guidance & Counselling in India: Scope, Need and Challenges. The session explored the importance, scope and challenges of career guidance and counselling in the Indian context.
The second technical session was conducted by Ms. Lipika Mondal and Ms. Ishita Mandal, focusing on Principles and Ethics of Counselling. The session also introduced participants to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and included a group activity and reflection on applying CBT principles in student support. This interactive approach helped participants connect counselling concepts with practical student-support situations.
The final session of the day was led by Prof. Nargis Ahamed on Essential Qualities of an Effective Counsellor. The session highlighted self-awareness, empathy, positive regard, genuineness and attentiveness as important qualities for effective counselling. The day concluded with an open discussion, Q&A, Day-1 reflection and announcements, allowing participants to reflect on the day’s learning and clarify their queries.
Overall, the first day provided a strong foundation for the workshop through expert-led sessions, interactive activities and reflection. The National Trainers’ Training Workshop on Career & Psychological Counselling, jointly organized by the Centre for Training & Academic Guidance (CTAG) and the Students’ Counselling Committee, Aliah University, was inaugurated on 21 August 2026 at Aliah University, Park Circus Campus, Kolkata. The workshop brought together 140 trainers, counsellors and education professionals from different parts of West Bengal and adjoining states, with the objective of strengthening professional knowledge and practical competencies in the fields of career and psychological counselling.
The inaugural session commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Mr. Anisur Rahaman, setting a meaningful tone for the programme. This was followed by the Presidential Address delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Rafikul Islam, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Aliah University, who highlighted the importance of counselling and guidance in supporting students in their academic, career and personal development.
Mr. M. Sajid, General Secretary, Human Welfare Foundation, delivered the Welcome Address, welcoming the participants and outlining the vision and objectives of the training programme. Prof. Nargis Ahamed, Chairperson, Students’ Counselling Committee, Aliah University, provided an orientation to the workshop and highlighted the need for systematic and effective counselling support for students.
The inaugural programme was also graced by Dr. Sk Moinul Hoque, Dean, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Aliah University, and Dr. A.K.M. Anwaruzzaman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Languages, Aliah University. Their presence added significance to the formal inauguration and reflected the university’s commitment to promoting student counselling, career development and holistic education.
